Our History

Plush first opened its doors in Nunawading, Victoria in October 2000.  The original concept for Plush or as it was known then, Plush Leather, was to provide customers with quality designer leather sofas at affordable prices - 'Best Designs, Best Prices'.   As one of Australia's first specialist sofa stores, Plush Leather was able to import leather sofas direct from Italy and Asia, ensuring it had a competitive advantage over design, quality and price.

Following the successful launch of its pilot store in Nunawading, Plush Leather opened its flagship store in Richmond, Victoria during 2001.  Over the next twelve months the brand consolidated its initial success by opening a further 2 stores in Dandenong, Victoria and Shepparton, regional Victoria.  These stores were located in distinctively different demographic areas in order to test the wider market appeal of the Plush Leather concept.  The acceptance and success of the original Plush Leather concept of 'Best Designs, Best Prices' at these 4 stores which were supported and serviced by a central administration, products, marketing, warehousing & distribution facility, heralded the beginning of 'The Plush History'.

Throughout 2003, the Plush Leather team continued to develop new and innovative products and expand the brand within the Victorian market.  New stores were opened in Taylors Lakes, Ballarat and Knox.

2004 was a revolutionary year for Plush Leather.  The brand first entered the NSW market, opening 3 stores within the Sydney metropolitan area; Crows Nest, Liverpool and Auburn and 2 stores within regional NSW; Albury and Port Macquarie.  A distribution centre was also established in NSW to service these stores and their customers.  However, the biggest change was to the Plush Leather concept itself.  As a result of customer feedback and the popularity of Plush Leather's sofa range, the natural step in the brands concept development was to offer consumers a range of fabric or upholstery sofa options.  Plush Leather was now not only a leather specialist but had become a sofa specialist and as such the brand name was shortened to "Plush".  A new positioning statement was also established to reinforce the new concept - "Plush - think sofas".

Plush continued its store expansion program over 2005 and 2006 with stores opening in Newcastle, Preston, Bundall, Queensland and 3 stores in South Australia; Marion, Mile End and Munno Parra.  2006 also saw the first ever Plush television advertisement go to air across all markets, featuring celebrity interior designer Tara Dennis.

In 2008, Plush opened additional stores in Warrawong and Alexandria, NSW and an exciting new look store in Erina, NSW.  The Plush team remained active across 2009 opening an additional 2 more stores in Victoria together with additional stores in QLD and NSW.

The Plush journey has only just begun and with plans to open more stores
nationally, Plush continues to build on its reputation as Australia's fastest
growing and reputable sofa specialists.
