Plush Area Manager

What does your role at Plush involve?

I support and mentor six Sydney metropolitan stores and the NSW Distribution Centre. I believe my main role is to provide this mentoring and support role as I have a wonderful team of people who continue to strive and pursue growth within the company.

Describe some of the main skills you need to be effective at your job?

The ability to make decisions quickly if need be - or if time allows, decisions over time, that take into account the company needs/procedures, store aims and the wants and needs of customers and staff. The ability to stay professional at all times and ensure a calming and mature presence.

What makes your job rewarding?

To achieve success as a team - i.e. our main focus is to close sales!! But if we can do this with a sense of humour and fun, that's the key. Developing individuals whether to a higher standard within their roles or with the aim of ensuring they are ready for advancement opportunities within the company. I genuinely like and enjoy working with every individual within the company - a testament to the quality of people we attract.

What has been your career highlight?

The pride of opening the first Plush Sydney store and seeing the number of stores growing. In my current role - seeing two members of our team move into managers positions and excel both as retailers and individuals.

What makes Plush a great place to work?

Simply put - the people! The caliber of people I have come across has been incredible. The passion and commitment I witness is inspiring. At Plush, the faith and loyalty shown at all levels of the business, along with a sense of trust, shows a company that is mature and still run with all the great qualities of a small company, but with the vision and aims of a larger one.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

Spend as much time as possible with family and friends. I guess my life really revolves around my two children and enjoy nothing more than just spending time with them!! I have been known to enjoy the odd bit of sport - cricket, tennis and rugby league. I read a lot. Also enjoy listening to music, but apparently, not anything made in the last 15 years....
